North-West College Bakersfield Now Enrolling for Associate of Occupational Science in Surgical Technology Program

New Program Highlights College’s Continued Commitment to Training Qualified Health Care Professionals

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—North-West College’s Bakersfield Campus recently announced the addition of an Associate of Occupational Science in Surgical Technology to its list of program offerings. A hands-on, 76-semester-credit associate’s degree, this program can be completed in approximately two years.

“We recognize the vital role Surgical Technologists hold on surgical teams,” explained Divisional Director of Operations Edward Beauchamp, “and we are committed to remaining on the leading edge of this field—equipping graduates who can hit the ground running as surgical procedures evolve.”

Surgical Technologists work closely with doctors, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel—prepping operating rooms and assisting surgeons and nurses both before and during surgical procedures. Hospitals and surgery centers are increasingly looking to Surgical Technologists to take on additional responsibilities on the surgery team. With these expanded duties and new advances in surgical techniques, Surgical Technologists with a degree may have greater opportunities.

Approved by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), the new associate’s degree program offers students a blended format—allowing them to participate in scheduled, live online lectures combined with hands-on training in lab at the campus—giving students the chance to put their knowledge into practice in a realistic setting.

“Adding the Associate of Occupational Science in Surgical Technology to our Bakersfield Campus offerings is yet another way North-West College is answering the need for well-trained Surgical Technologists,” Beauchamp shared. “We are excited to see the positive impact these professionals will have on their patients, on their fellow health care workers, and on the broader communities they serve.”
