California Board-Approved Transfer Highlights GCC’s Quality Programs and Organizational Resiliency

GLENDALE, Calif.—Forty nursing students now eagerly await their graduation from Glendale Career College (GCC)after they transferred to GCC following the closure of their previous school, Shepherd University. Upon learning of Shepherd’s closure in late 2017, Glendale Career College assembled an executive team to meet with Shepherd’s nursing students and explore the potential for them to join GCC’s Registered Nursing program.

“These students were on their way to a bright future in the health care field,” explained Glendale Career College’s Chief Operating Officer Beylor Meza. “It is a privilege to be able to help them finish what they’ve started.”

Following Shepherd University’s closure, GCC worked diligently with the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)—its institutional accreditor, and the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), its state regulator.

Beylor Meza testified in front of the BRN, articulating the College’s plan to help thestudents complete their studies at GCC. The College garnered the support and appreciation of not only the Board of Registered Nursing, but ABHES and the BPPE as well. In late January, all 40 students resumed their nursing education at Glendale Career College.

“Glendale Career College has a history of helping students from closed institutions, which is a testament to our strength, solvency, and ongoing mission as an organization,” Meza shared. “We are excited to see these 40 students join the ranks of our alumni who have gone on to raise the standard of excellence at health care institutions across the country.”
