What is a Medical Assistant?
A Medical Assistant often aids in many front and back office functions in a healthcare setting. They prepare patients to see the doctor, take blood pressures, measure heights & weights and record medical histories. They also set up the examination room, give immunizations, take EKG's and perform various lab tests. As a graduate of the GCC Medical Assistant Program, you will also be prepared on the administrative side, helping to schedule appointments, order supplies, fill out insurance forms, handle correspondence and maintain patient charts.
Where can a Medical Assistant work?
The majority of GCC Medical Assistant graduates currently serve the profession in medical offices, employed by doctors in private practice or clinic settings. Other graduates are hired by rapidly growing group-practice systems, serving several general practice doctors or specialists sharing one facility. Medical Assistant graduates can also be employed by clinics, medical centers, medical institutions, research centers, laboratories, nursing homes, specialized care centers, hospitals and health maintenance organizations (HMO'S).
