Central
Service Instrument Technician (CSIT)
This program will prepare students with the
knowledge, skills, ability and experience to work in
the fast-paced, dynamic, challenging and highly
technical environment of the Central Service
department of a healthcare facility. The Central
Service Instrument Technician program is designed to
introduce the varied processes and procedures needed
to handle the latest requirements for sterilization
of surgical instruments, equipment and materiel
management, distribution, purchasing, inventory
control and quality assurance. The program will
prepare the student to function effectively in
providing patient care and employee safety.
Job-related skills will be acquired through a
balance of program lecture, demonstration,
discussion and laboratory work in clinical site
activities. Graduates from the program are eligible
to obtain the CRCST credential by successfully
passing the certification exam through the IAHCSMM
educational programs endorsed by Purdue University.
